Team USA ready to banish ghosts of Beijing
Team USA's track and field team are determined that 2012 goes down as the year they returned to the pinnacle of athletics, after a below-par performance four years ago in Beijing.
Bolt double thrills Jamaica fans in London
Hundreds gathered in Jamaica House in London Friday to watch the nation's sprinters make a clean sweep of medals in the 200m final. Usain Bolt became the only man to retain the 100m and 200m titles, finishing ahead of fellow Jamaicans Yohan Blake and Warren Weir.
Away from Games, nations compete over national 'houses
Fiji have opted for a thatched hut on the water’s edge, the Czechs a double-decker bus that does press-ups while the Austrians have chosen a ski chalet. While the spotlight is on London for the Olympic Games, national “houses” give nations a chance to promote their tourist attractions, host VIPs and athletes or, in the case of Brazil and Russia, start plugging their own Olympic Games.
New canal boat service for London Olympic Park
As well as regenerating acres of contaminated wasteland, organisers of the London 2012 Olympics have also breathed new life into the canals that bisect the Olympic Park. A new canal boat service is opening to make the most of the waterways and, at a cost, will deliver Olympic ticket holders right to the heart of the action.
Best of London 2012: Sights and sounds
Not all the action of London 2012 went on in the Olympic venues. In the Olympic park and watching the action on big screens were thousands of colourful and fanatical fans, each one adding to the sights and sounds of the Games.
